Privacy Policy

Last Updated: 31.03.2026

Scrollstice is a digital wellbeing tool designed to help users interrupt prolonged scrolling and make more intentional choices about their phone use.

Prominent Disclosure: Local Processing Scrollstice is designed to operate locally on your device. It does not use external servers to monitor your app activity, dwell time, intervention timing, or behavioral state. The only time information may leave your device is if you manually choose to share a debug log with support.

1. Controller Information

The controller responsible for processing under this Privacy Policy is:

Controller:
PT Gard Olve Sagen, operating Scrollstice
Rudsveien 21B
1346 Gjettum
Norway
Email: [email protected]

2. What Scrollstice Processes

Scrollstice is designed to process a limited set of device-level activity data locally on your device so the app can function as intended.

Scrollstice does not read messages, typed text, passwords, photos, or the content shown inside other apps.

3. Why Scrollstice Processes This Information

Scrollstice processes this information only to provide its core functionality, including:

4. Legal Basis

If you are located in the EEA or UK, the legal basis for this local processing is generally the performance of a contract, meaning the processing is necessary to provide the app features you request, and legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the reliability of the app.

If you manually choose to send a debug log to support, that transmission is based on your affirmative action and request for support.

5. Permissions: How and Why We Use Them

A. Accessibility Service

How: Scrollstice uses Android Accessibility Service only to detect which app is currently open in the foreground and when that foreground app changes.

Why: This is required so Scrollstice can start a timer and show an intervention at the right moment.

Scrollstice does not use Accessibility to read messages, capture typed text, inspect passwords, or analyze content inside other apps.

B. Usage Access

How: This provides access to system app usage events.

Why: Scrollstice uses this as a fallback and verification mechanism for foreground app detection and timing reliability.

This information is processed locally on your device and is not transmitted to remote servers for monitoring or analytics.

C. Display Over Other Apps

How: This allows Scrollstice to display its intervention screen above another app.

Why: This is necessary for the app's core intervention feature.

This permission does not allow Scrollstice to read content inside the underlying app.

D. Notifications

How: Notifications may be used to keep monitoring visible to the system and to surface intervention or recovery information when needed.

Why: This helps Scrollstice remain reliable and notify you if important permissions are interrupted.

Notification use is limited to app functionality and reliability.

E. Battery Optimization / Unrestricted Battery Use

How: On some Android devices, battery settings can stop background monitoring.

Why: Scrollstice may ask you to disable battery optimization or set battery usage to Unrestricted so monitoring can continue working reliably.

This does not give Scrollstice access to your personal content. It only helps the app remain active in the background.

6. Data Storage and Retention

Scrollstice is designed to store its functional data locally on your device. This may include settings, timers, summaries, and reliability state needed for the app to operate.

This information is generally kept until you delete it, reset the app, revoke permissions, or uninstall the app. If you uninstall the app, locally stored app data is expected to be removed from your device, subject to the behavior of the Android operating system.

7. Data Sharing and Transfers

Scrollstice does not sell, rent, or share your personal or behavioral data with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics providers.

Scrollstice does not use external servers to process app activity monitoring data. As a result, Scrollstice does not normally transfer this monitored activity data outside your device or outside your country.

If you choose to contact support and manually share a debug log, the information you send may be received and processed in the country where support is handled.

8. Your Rights

If you are located in the EEA or UK, you may have rights under applicable data protection law, including the right to request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and, where applicable, data portability.

Because Scrollstice is designed to process most app activity data locally on your own device, many of these rights can also be exercised directly by changing app settings, revoking permissions, clearing app data, or uninstalling the app.

9. Complaints

If you are located in Norway, you may also lodge a complaint with Datatilsynet. If you are located elsewhere in the EEA or UK, you may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

10. Support Logs

Scrollstice includes an optional debug log sharing feature to help diagnose technical problems. Log sharing happens only if you manually choose to use that feature.

Debug logs may include technical events, timestamps, and app package names related to monitoring and recovery behavior. They are intended only for troubleshooting and support.

11. Children

Scrollstice is not directed to children under the age at which consent is required under applicable law, and it is not intended as a service for children without supervision from a parent or guardian.

12. Medical and Liability Disclaimer

Scrollstice is a self-help and habit-awareness utility. It is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical or psychological condition.

Use of the app is at your own risk. Device manufacturers, operating system updates, battery restrictions, or permission changes may interrupt monitoring behavior.

13. Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. When material changes are made, the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page will be revised.
